The Askar FRA400C is a 72 mm, 400 mm f/5.6 quintuplet astrograph for astrophotography, everyday photography and visual observing. Its two-ED optical design covers a 44 mm full-frame image circle.
A 17-blade diaphragm adjusts from f/5.6 to f/22, and minimum focus is 5 m. The front accepts M82 filters. At the rear, M72/M54/M48 photographic adapters include a built-in M48×0.75 filter thread. The native camera connection range is 50–60 mm, with 55 mm recommended.
The single-speed helical focuser locks and provides adjustable damping. MXL teeth allow an optional motor-focuser belt installation. The tube can rotate for framing. The mounting ring provides accessory holes and two finder bases, with a multifunction handle and a 290 mm Vixen-style dovetail. Tripod attachment provisions include M6, 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch threads.
The manufacturer includes 1.25-inch and 2-inch eyepiece adapters. OTA weight is 2.68 kg, or 3.18 kg with handle and dovetail. The manual gives a 370 mm overall length; the product page additionally lists 420 mm with inconsistent hood wording, so the configuration is not inferred.
Askar manufacturer documentation
The manufacturer length row gives 370 mm and 420 mm with inconsistent dew-shield wording. Both figures are retained as published without assigning a corrected configuration. Native camera connection range is 50–60 mm, with 55 mm recommended. Product table and manual operating text say two ED elements; a manual specification line says SD. The product-table ED designation is used.
