The Askar SQA55 is a 55 mm f/4.8 Petzval astrograph with a 264 mm focal length. Its air-spaced quintuplet includes one SD and one ED element and supports a 44 mm full-frame image circle.
The native self-flattened system works across a 50–60 mm camera connection range, with 55 mm recommended. A 14-blade diaphragm adjusts from f/4.8 to f/22. The front takes M67 photographic filters; the rear M48×0.75 adapter includes an internal 2-inch filter thread. Minimum focus is 5 m.
Coarse and fine focusing have separate locks; fine adjustment provides ±1 mm travel. The coarse ring has a distance scale and MXL timing teeth for an optional belt-driven focuser. The tube orientation and graduated 360° rotator lock independently. Four rear quick-release accessory bases provide additional attachment options.
The quick-release handle incorporates a finder-base slot. A removable 200 mm Vixen-style dovetail and 1/4-inch/3/8-inch tripod holes support different mounts. The hood reverses for storage. Askar specifies 1.84 kg OTA and 2.18 kg with handle and dovetail, and includes a waterproof carrying case.
