Takahashi Epsilon-160ED — 160 mm f/3.3 hyperbolic flat-field astrograph The Epsilon-160ED sits in the middle of Takahashi's Epsilon range. Its 160 mm hyperbolic primary and two-element ED corrector give a 530 mm f/3.3 system with a 44 mm image circle, combining extra aperture and focal length with the series' fast, flat field.

Takahashi Epsilon-160ED — 160 mm f/3.3 hyperbolic flat-field astrograph
The Epsilon-160ED sits in the middle of Takahashi's Epsilon range. Its 160 mm hyperbolic primary and two-element ED corrector give a 530 mm f/3.3 system with a 44 mm image circle, combining extra aperture and focal length with the series' fast, flat field.
The Epsilon optical system
Takahashi's Epsilon design uses a hyperbolic primary mirror to correct spherical aberration and coma, while the corrector produces a flattened image plane. The result is a fast astrograph that covers full-frame sensors with sharp stars across the field.
Imaging and visual use
At 530 mm, the 160ED gives a 4.8° photographic field, a good match for galaxies and mid-sized nebulae as well as wide fields. The metal-back distance is 56.2 mm. The tube is supplied with a visual adapter, an eyepiece adapter and a short connection ring: for visual observing, the visual adapter screws into the focuser in place of the corrector. With the optional Epsilon Extender 1.5×, the system becomes 800 mm at f/5.0.
