Gerd Neumann jr. Camera Tilting Unit CTU XT M48 — ultra-thin sensor tilt adjuster

As camera sensors grow larger, even a tiny tilt between the sensor and the focal plane shows up as stars that are sharp on one side of the frame and elongated on the other. The Gerd Neumann jr. CTU XT M48 (article 10105148) sits in the imaging train and lets you correct that tilt precisely.

Ultra-thin construction

The XT generation is just 11.3 mm thick, so it adds very little to your back-focus budget. It replaces the earlier CTU M48, which was 17.3 mm thick and is no longer produced.

Connections

The unit has female M48 × 0.75 threads on both sides. An 8 mm length of continuous male thread is included so you can join it to other female-threaded components.

How it works

The CTU has two halves held together by strong disc-spring packs. Turning the adjustment screws separates the halves by tiny, controlled amounts, which lets you set the sensor square to the optical axis. The bearing surfaces are Teflon, and the interior is finished in deep black optical paint.

Compatibility notes

XT M48 (10105148, 11.3 mm), not the discontinued CTU M48 (17.3 mm), the XT M54 (10105154), XT M48/M54 combi (10105155) or XT M68x1 (10105168). Older CTU travel and adjustment-per-turn figures are not applied to the XT. Clear aperture not published.
